The Best Four Weeks of Summer 2026 Session: June 21 - July 17

Whether you’re looking for a taste of what Fishburne is like or you want to prepare yourself for Fall Semester or you just can’t get enough of what’s awesome about Fishburne, our Summer Program is perfect for you. Come do something you’ve never done and make friends—and acquire skills—that will last a lifetime.

For Boys in Grades 7-10

Whether your son wants a preview of life at Fishburne, a strong academic reset, or a structured summer that blends learning, athletics, and adventure, the Fishburne Summer Program delivers.

This four-week residential experience keeps boys academically engaged, physically active, and socially connected in a supportive military school environment. Cadets build confidence, sharpen study habits, and form friendships that often carry into the school year.

Program Highlights WHY A FISHBURNE SUMMER

Summer should be meaningful. At Fishburne, students stay mentally sharp, physically active, and socially connected in a setting designed to help boys thrive. Cadets follow a consistent daily schedule that mirrors the rhythm of the academic year while allowing room for exploration, teamwork, and growth.

  • Academics

    Research shows that students can lose significant academic momentum over the summer months. The Fishburne Summer Program is designed to keep students engaged and progressing.
    Summer academics focus on:
    • English language arts
    • Mathematics
    • Science
    • History
    Courses emphasize review, reinforcement, and skill development rather than grades or credit. This approach helps students return to school confident and ready.

    Credit Recovery

    Credit recovery options are available through an online program integrated into the daily schedule. These opportunities are offered on a case-by-case basis and must be approved by Fishburne’s Academic Dean during the admission process.

    Class Structure
    • Cadets select three core academic classes
    • One-hour classes, Monday through Thursday
    • Two elective courses meeting Mondays and Wednesdays
    Fishburne reserves the right to cancel any course with fewer than five enrolled students.
  • Athletics

    Physical activity is a core part of the Fishburne experience.
    Cadets participate in sports every afternoon and are required to select one option.

  • ELECTIVE COURSES

    Electives are designed to expand interests and build confidence while reinforcing practical skills.
    Cadets choose two elective courses for the summer session.

    • Personal Finance & Professional Skills (high school only)
    • Military Leadership & Character Development
    • IT Modeling and Design
    • Art at the Wayne Theatre
    No honors, AP, dual enrollment, or advanced courses are offered during the summer session.
  • JROTC FRIDAYS

    Every Friday, cadets take part in leadership and character-building experiences led by Fishburne’s Army JROTC instructors.
    Activities may include:
    • Leadership reaction courses
    • Obstacle courses
    • Rock climbing and rappelling
    • Compass orienteering
    • Visits to military institutions such as Virginia Military Institute
    • Team competitions and field challenges
    Fishburne has maintained designation as a JROTC Honor Unit with Distinction for more than 40 years.
  • SAT Prep Classes

    Students may enroll in in-person SAT preparation during the Summer Program.
    • Additional fee: $250
    • Minimum enrollment required
    • Indicate interest on the Summer Program application

Outdoor Adventures and Weekends at Fishburne

  • Outdoor Adventures

    Located in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Fishburne takes learning beyond the classroom.

    On Tuesdays and Thursdays, cadets participate in outdoor activities such as:
    • Hiking
    • Horseback riding
    • Mountain biking
    • Swimming
    • Fishing
    • River tubing
  • Weekends at Fishburne

    Weekends are active, social, and fun.

    Activities may include:
    • Field days and team games
    • Waterslides and outdoor competitions
    • Local outings to downtown Waynesboro
    • Group trips for food and treats

Fishburne Military School has earned the US Army’s highest level of accreditation and maintained its designation as a JROTC Honor Unit With Distinction for over 40 years. We may also nominate qualified candidates to the United States Service Academies and host one of only four Summer JROTC programs in the nation, accredited by US Army Cadet Command.
