Fishburne Military School Appoints COL Steve Barone (VA) as Commandant

Fishburne Military School has announced the appointment of COL Steve Barone (VA).
COL Barone succeeds COL Robert Phillips (USA ret), who has served as Interim Commandant while also fulfilling his role as Chaplain. Later this spring, COL Phillips will return fully to his chaplaincy, a position central to the pastoral care, mentorship, and individual counseling of Fishburne cadets.

“I am deeply grateful to COL Phillips for standing in the breach at a moment when Fishburne needed steady leadership and our Corps needed thoughtful pastoral care,” said Colonel Randal E. Brown (VA), President and Head of School. “His willingness to serve in both roles ensured continuity, stability, and care for our cadets during a pivotal time.”

Since joining Fishburne in the fall as a part-time instructor, COL Barone has quickly become a familiar and respected presence on campus. He taught two elective courses, sponsored the Special Operations Club, and helped strengthen the school’s partnership with SOCOM Athlete. In a short time, he has built a strong following among cadets through his teaching, mentorship, and engagement in campus life.

A highly accomplished U.S. Army officer, COL Barone spent the majority of his career in Special Forces and Delta Force, participating in some of the most demanding combat operations worldwide. His service also includes assignments at the Pentagon and as an instructor at the U.S. Army War College. He holds a Doctorate in Management from Madison University, a Master’s in Military Science from the Air Force Command and Staff College, a Political Science degree from Bloomsburg University, and a Postgraduate Fellowship from MIT.

COL Barone assumed command responsibilities on February 17.
