Summer at Fishburne: Four Weeks That Build Confidence, Skills, and Momentum

Fishburne Military School is now enrolling for its 2026 Summer Program, a four-week experience running June 21 through July 17 for boys in grades 7 through 12. Designed for both returning cadets and new students curious about military school life, the program blends academics, leadership training, athletics, and outdoor adventure into a structured and memorable summer.

Academically, the Summer Program keeps students sharp and engaged. Cadets take core classes in English, math, science, and history, paired with elective offerings that build practical skills and confidence. While courses are not for credit, the focus is clear: reinforce learning, introduce new concepts, and prevent the summer slide. Credit recovery options are available on a case-by-case basis with approval from the Academic Dean, and students may also enroll in optional in-person SAT preparation.

Leadership development is a cornerstone of the program. Each Friday, cadets participate in JROTC-led activities that emphasize teamwork, decision-making, and personal responsibility. Experiences include high ropes courses, rappelling, obstacle challenges, orienteering, and leadership reaction exercises. These activities are led by Fishburne’s Army JROTC instructors, whose program has held Honor Unit With Distinction status for more than four decades.

Physical activity and time outdoors round out each week. Cadets choose from a range of sports, including soccer, basketball, football, swimming, wrestling, and baseball, while outdoor adventure days take full advantage of the Blue Ridge Mountains. From hiking and mountain biking to tubing the James River and swimming at Sherando Lake, students stay active while building camaraderie.

Weekends bring a lighter pace and plenty of fun, with on-campus activities and local outings that help friendships form quickly. For many families, the Summer Program serves as an ideal introduction to Fishburne’s structure, culture, and sense of brotherhood, while for others it is a chance to return to campus and strengthen skills ahead of the fall semester.

The Fishburne Summer Program offers more than a productive way to spend four weeks. It gives young men direction, confidence, and a strong start to the year ahead.
