Frequently Asked Questions
Is Fishburne a school for "bad kids"?
No, this is a myth. Military Schools are not behavior reform schools for troubled youth. FMS is a place for studnets that desire structure and focus under the caring eye of a committed faculty and staff.
Is attending Fishburne free?
No, FMS is a tuition based school. Revenue from tuition is used to support operating costs. However, Fishburne does offer financial aid in the form of tuition discounts for the school year only. We do not offer athletic or full ride scholarships.
What do Cadets do in their free time?
At Fishburne the day is very structured, but during free time, you will see cadets in a variety of locations around campus to include the field house, weight rooms, front athletic field, and the library to name a few. On weekends cadets on "town pass" can walk into downtown Waynesboro for pizza, ice cream or a trip to local Walmart for supplies (snacks).
What athletic teams does Fishburne offer?
At FMS, Cadets have 12 varisty sports programs to choose from including Football (11-man), Soccer, Cross Country, Basektball, Wrestling, Swimming, Marksmanship, Baseball, Lacrosse, Golf, Track and Field, and Raiders (JROTC).
What type of boarding programs does Fishburne offer?
At Fishburne we offer a Day program (cadets are dropped off for morning physical training and are free to go home after athletics ends around 6pm), 5 Day boarding program (Cadets are on campus Sunday evening - Friday afternoon), and a 7 day boarding program.
Is the food good?
Yes! Take our word for that. You will not be disappointed! Our local catering company sources meats, fruits, and vegetables locally and everything is made fresh in house!

Fishburne Military School is the oldest and smallest of the military schools in Virginia for boys. Its college-prep curriculum is built upon the structure of an Army JROTC program. FMS is designated as a JROTC Honor Unit with Distinction and may nominate qualified candidates to the United States Service Academies. Fishburne hosts one of only four Summer JROTC programs in the nation, accredited by US Army Cadet Command.
