Waynesboro, VA – Fishburne Military School is proud to announce that they have been named to Virginia Living Magazine’s list of Top Schools & Colleges 2020. Top Schools & Colleges 2020 lists approximately 160 programs in schools across the state which are "leading the way in innovation".
There are approximately 620 high schools (made up of 383 public schools and 237 private schools) and 81 colleges in the state of Virginia. Fishburne MIlitary School has cosistently made this list of the top programs since 2013.
Fishburne Military School’s Superintendent, CAPTAIN Mark Black, US Navy (Ret) notes that “For the past one hundred and forty-one years, Fishburne Military School has been dedicated to developing educated and honorable young men. Being recognized as one of the top programs in our home state is something that makes us all extrememly proud.”
The Top Schools & Colleges 2020 list recognizes four-year colleges, private high schools, private K-12 schools, private K-8 schools, public high schools, and special needs schools. According to the magazine, Virginia Living's editors "carefully and thoroughly review each school’s programs and accomplishments, selecting schools that have instituted programs or recently begun capital improvements aimed at strengthening students’ experience in the classroom, in the field, and in their communities". Virginia Living’s Top Schools & Colleges 2020 is widely considered a resource for anyone interested in knowing why Virginia’s schools are consistently ranked among the country’s best.

In recent years Fishburne has launched a successful Science, Engineering, Technology and Mathematics (STEM) initiative, completed a number of IT and classroom technology upgrades. In September 2019, Fishburne Military School opened their new $4.5M Hitt-Millar Field House for athletics, JROTC training and special events.
Celebrating 100 years as a US Army JROTC unit, Fishburne Military School is one of the oldest and smallest of all military schools for boys in America. Its college-prep curriculum is built on the structure of an Army JROTC program. FMS has been designated as a JROTC Honor Unit with Distinction and may nominate qualified candidates to the United States Service Academies. Fishburne hosts one of only four Summer JROTC programs in the nation that is accredited by US Army Cadet Command.
