Fishburne Military School Cross Country Continues to Build Upon Progress

recap by Coach Tankard — Coyner Springs Park, Waynesboro, VA— It was a perfect day to run a race and many Caisson runners took advantage of the cooler temperatures to post improved timesFishburne Military School (Waynesboro, VA ) Cross Country Team for the season. With a field of 105 runners, Sophomore Garrett Rose (Columbus, IN) again led the team. He placed 10th with a time of 19:02, his best time of the season. He was followed by freshman Riley Malone (Waynesboro, VA) in 28th, who had a time of 20:55 and sophomore Mitch Cooper (Manakin Sabot, VA)  in 34th  with a time of 21:05. The most impressive season gain was by senior Jack Poulsen (Gallatin Gateway, MT) who finished 51st with a time of 22:00. He shaved 2:28 seconds off his best time of the season. Right on his heels, eight- grader Justin Hill (St. Augustine, FL) scored fifth for the team (22:04), shaving 2:26 off his best time of the season.

Junior Yulong Sun (Guangdong, China) shaved off 52 seconds to finish in 22:19. eighth-grader Mick Ball (Reston, VA) finished seventh for the team, shaved off 2:20 from his best with a time of 24:01 seventh-grader Ian Clardy (Arlington, VA) continued his progress by reducing his season best to 24:58, 1:35 less than his previous best race at VES.

The team is making progress. These last few weeks and how hard the cadets push themselves in practice will determine if these times continue to tumble. Our next meet is next Saturday in Lynchburg for the VIC Conference meet.

Fishburne Military School is the oldest and smallest of all military schools for boys in Virginia. Its college-prep curriculum is built on the structure of an Army JROTC program. FMS has been designated as a JROTC Honor Unit with Distinction and may nominate qualified candidates to the United States Service Academies. Fishburne hosts one of only four Summer JROTC programs in the nation that is accredited by US Army Cadet Command.
