Fishburne Military School Names Top Cadets and Company

Waynesboro, VA — Fishburne Military School officially announced its latest Cadet Awards winners. Due to the Holiday breaks, November and December awards are combined.

In recognition of his outstanding academic and military performance, Cadet Tommy Dao, son of Mrs. Phuyong Dao Hoach, has been named Fishburne Military School’sFishburne Military School (Waynesboro, VA) announces monthly awards Officer of the Month for November and December 2018. Dao, a senior from Stoughton, MA, is in his third year at Fishburne Military School.

The announcement, which reads in part: “Through outstanding performance of duty and dedication to the Corps of Cadets and Fishburne Military School, Cadet Tommy Dao is hereby awarded Officer of the Month … Your tireless work ethic and attention to detail is a testament to your position”, was made during a formation before the entire assembled Corps of Cadets.

In recognition of his outstanding academic and military performance, Cadet Rory Grant, son of Ms. Leslie Grant was named Fishburne Military School’s Cadet Non-Commissioned Officer of the Month for November and December 2018. Grant, a junior from Columbia, MD, is in his second year at Fishburne Military School.

Cadet Officer and NCO of the month each receive 10 Superintendent’s Merits, 10 Commandant’s Merits, one special meal, and one four-day pass.

In recognition of his outstanding academic and military performance, Cadet Joshua Elms, son of Mr. and Mrs. Philip Moore, was named Fishburne Military School’s Cadet of the Month for November and December 2018. Elms, a sophomore from Fountain Hills, AZ, is in his first year at Fishburne Military School.

Elms will receive the Cadet of the Month Cord with corresponding ribbon as well as the Personal Appearance Ribbon. In addition, the Cadet of the Month is awarded 10 Commandant’s Merits, one special dinner, and one three-day pass.

In recognition of their teamwork, professionalism and overall bearing, Alpha Company has been designated as Company of the Month for November and December 2018 at Fishburne Military School. In appreciation for their efforts, members of Alpha Company will be served first at breakfast and will receive structured town pass on Mondays as well as 10 Merits for each member of the Company.

Cadet award winners are selected by a board of Cadet Officers, and approved by the Commandant of Cadets. A Cadet award winner is selected based upon his academic, military and community achievements throughout the previous month.

Celebrating 100 years as a US Army JROTC unit, Fishburne Military School is the oldest and smallest of all military schools for boys in Virginia. Its college-prep curriculum is built on the structure of an Army JROTC program. FMS is designated as a JROTC Honor Unit with Distinction and may nominate qualified candidates to the United States Service Academies. Fishburne hosts one of only four Summer JROTC programs in the nation that is accredited by US Army Cadet Command.
