11 Dec 09 :: Great win by our Caisson aqua men!

Swimming against Massanutten is always exciting and this match was no different.  We were neck and neck in the beginning of the match but then Massanutten pulled ahead in the 50 free and the 100 Free.  Going in to the second half of the meet Massanutten was up by 10 points.  But then Fishburne stepped it up.  In the 100 Back (usually our worst event) Cochran got first place by nearly half a pool and Burkard came in second (after a Massanutten swimmer DQ'ed).  In the 100 Breast we got another
1-2 finish with Montgomery and Barat, who smoked the competition leaving the Massanutten swimmers in their wake.  After these two events we knew it was a close meet and that everything came down to the final 400 Free relay.  We started out slow and were about 10 yards behind Massanutten after the first two swimmers, but then Cochran came flying off the blocks and managed to close the entire gap.  It was down to the final two swimmers and Massanutten had saved their best for last.  Connor Smith was anchoring the Fishburne Relay and started falling a bit behind, but between a last burst of speed from Smith and a bad turn by the Massanutten Swimmer, Smith was able to finish first and clinch the win. The entire team was hoarse from cheering the relay swimmers on. We also had some very close events. In the 500 freestyle, Smith and the Massanutten swimmer were neck and neck the entire event, but at the very end the Massanutten swimmer edged ahead.  In the 200 IM Barat missed first place by tenths of a second, and the same happened with Foetsch in the 50 Free.  Our swimmers all did a fantastic job today, everyone dropped time and showed real improvement.

7 Dec 09 :: Fishburne swimming went to North Cross where we swam two dual meets against North Cross and VES. The meet against North Cross was close the entire meet, and tied going into the final relay. Sadly a tired Fishburne team was unable to beat their opponents, and lost the meet by three points for a final score of 45 to 42. VES took an early lead in the first event and beat FMS 52 to 35.

The FMS team was lead by Montgomery who won three individual firsts and one individual second in the two meets in the 200 IM and 100 Fly. Partida and Cochran swam in their first meet ever and both performed very well. Barat got first in the 100 breast against North Cross and second against VES by less than a second in an exciting race. Foetsch was FMS's top sprinter getting second in both the 50 and 100 free.

12 Nov 09 :: Last night was our first swim meet, which was a scrimmage against Hargrave.  Hargrave is one of the top swim teams in the state so this was a tough mental battle from the beginning.  We also had fewer swimmers than we were expecting, so this put an extra burden on each of the swimmers who attended.  With only 7 swimmers each swimmer had to swim difficult events that weren't necessarily what they would have wanted to swim.  However they stepped up and swam their best despite all the mental pressure. Connor Smith swam the two most difficult events the 200 IM and the 500 free.  He really rose to the occasion.  Jason Montgomery dropped 8 seconds off his 100 fly time which is very impressive. Max Foetsch and Anthony Barton really gave their all in their first swim meet.  Please encourage all the swimmers who attended, though they didn't win they fought hard and that is what is most important.
